Bathing as RitualPublication Design2024
This work explores place as refuge, my relationship to the bathtub as a sanctuary and an intimate space where water becomes both a literal and metaphorical embrace. I examine the dynamic between moments of delicate stillness in the bath juxtaposed against chaotic and anxious thoughts throughout my everyday. The bathtub acts as a vessel to pause, to breathe, and to return - a moment to intentionally let go of overwhelming thoughts.

Bathing as ritual is an act which replenishes both the mind and the body, a practice of self care. Ornamentation of space, the soft flicker of candles which cast away shadows of anxious thoughts, or of flowers gently resting within their vases, become an intentional act of caring for self. You will notice a calmness emanating as you navigate the artist book, what begins as a busy and overwhelming ensemble of thoughts and ideas becomes distilled into clear and direct layouts, reflecting with intention the clarity of mind found in the bathtub.

I aim to tell the stories found in each droplet of water, the shedding of fears, burdens and worries from the day. The sacred importance of the bathtub as place, as escape from the anxious mind that follows me throughout the day. My time bathing becomes one of the only waking moments I can truly rest, truly release.

This book is a love letter to the water that holds me and to the bath that holds the water.
