Bookmarks as Business Card
Personal Branding2024
Acting as a tool to introduce myself and my practice, I was tasked with creating a design outcome to be given to prospective employers showcasing a high sense of personal identity and creativity. Considering a balance of both personal expression and professional ambition, this project ensured both a thorough and vigirously reflective approach. I sought to build a strong foundation and robust identity that felt curated to a clear avenue and target audience.  A nod to my love for publication and book design, I decided to situate my introduction within a bookmark, a hopefully useful tool to be carried around on person should they be avid readers like myself.

My resolved outcome delivers high consideration to typography and layout, with experimental approaches being made through my printmaking and craft techniques. This creates an engaging work, establishing a connection between myself and the employer. It showcases elements of my personality through a friendly, inviting, professional, and exciting visual language. I chose to have my object act between a direct and indirect approach to introduction, the wprl imbued with qualities that make it less intimidating for employers to hold on to.

The final design uses language deliberately to extend an offer for mentorship, and the object itself feels more of a personal project they can take home rather than a business card because of it’s secondary use as a bookmark.

I acknowledge the Wurundjeri and Bunurong people of the Eastern Kulin nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which I design and pay respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging. I also wish to acknowledge the Māori people of Tāmāki Makaurau in Aotearoa in which I grew up.
